Clare Mueller is a Sydney based artist, working on Gadigal land. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art from National Art School in 2019, majoring in painting. Mueller is currently part of the Little Yellow Studio Collective, working and showcasing artworks there regularly. She exhibited her first solo painting show there ‘Who are you Haunting?’ in 2023, and in the same year, was a finalist in the Lane Cove Art Award for her painting ‘At the Crossroads (roundabout).’ In 2024, Mueller was a finalist for the Ravenswood Woman’s Art Prize, Australia’s highest value art prize for woman, for her painting ‘At the Crossroads (Frances St).’
Mueller’s works are an exploration of the everyday, captured moments of beauty and haunting. Depictions of nocturnal suburban streetscapes are a main focus, with an emphasis on the play of light and shadow. Through these scenes Mueller hopes to evoke an eerie and uncanny presence, highlighting the haunted nature of the seemingly mundane.
