Clare Mueller is a Sydney based artist, working on Gadigal land. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art from National Art School in 2020, majoring in painting. Since graduation, Mueller has showcased in a number of galleries in Sydney, Wollongong, and Melbourne. She exhibited her first solo show. ‘Who are you Haunting?’ in 2023 at Little Yellow Studio, and in the same year, was a finalist in the Lane Cove Art Award for her painting ‘At the Crossroads (roundabout).’ Mueller has also since been a finalist in the Ravenswood Woman’s Art Prize (2024) for ‘At the Crossroads (Frances St), and the Lloyd Rees Emerging Art Prize (2025) for ‘No Smoking in the Area’ and ‘Demolition of the Home’. In April 2026, Mueller exhibited her second solo show ‘Urbanisation; Itemised’ at Airspace Projects.
Mueller’s works are an exploration of the everyday, captured moments of beauty and haunting. Depictions of nocturnal suburban streetscapes are a main focus, with an emphasis on the play of light and shadow. Through these scenes Mueller hopes to evoke an eerie and uncanny presence, highlighting the haunted nature of the seemingly mundane.
